Website migration SEO checklist
Pre-launch and post-launch SEO checks when replatforming—URLs, redirects, parity, and Search Console.
Use this with website migration services and methodology parity practices.
Before cutover
- Crawl legacy URLs; export status codes and canonicals
- Map 1:1 redirects (301) for indexable pages; document intentional removals (410)
- Freeze new legacy content or sync process defined
- Match title/meta on top-traffic URLs or improve with intent, not churn
- Internal link graph plan for new templates
- Staging
noindexverified
Launch day
- Lower DNS/TTL; deploy redirects at edge first
- Smoke-test top 50 URLs (status, canonical, hreflang if used)
- Submit sitemap in Search Console property
- Monitor 404/5xx logs in real time
After launch (30–90 days)
- Compare GSC coverage and query groups week over week
- Fix redirect chains and parameter duplication
- Reconcile structured data on templates
- Keep content parity for mirrored child pages per network rules
We do not promise ranking preservation—only auditable technical parity and documented decisions.
